Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band
Membership in the Wind Symphony or Symphonic Band is open to any West Virginia University student, regardless of major, pending a successful audition. Please read Ensemble Audition Procedures for an explanation of the audition process. Pl ease note, these auditions also serve for wind and percussion placement in the Symphony Orchestra. Audition dates, times, and materials for the Spring 2026 semester will be posted in December 2025.
Concert Bands
Two Concert Bands are currently offered during the Spring semester only. There is no audition required to join. Individuals simply need to register for MUSC 101 - Concert Band in order to participate. Membership in the Concert Bands is open to any West Virginia University student with prior band experience, regardless of major.
Mountaineer Marching Band
Membership in the WVU Mountaineer Marching Band is open to any West Virginia University student pending a successful audition. Students may audition before receiving their official university acceptance; however, participation in the Mountaineer Marching Band is dependent on acceptance to WVU. Accepted music majors are also required to audition for membership in the Mountaineer Marching Band.
With the exception of drumline, colorguard, and feature twirlers, returning members are not required to re-audition unless they wish to perform on a secondary instrument.
Audition information for 2026 will be posted in late January or early February.
Pep Band
Membership in the WVU Pep Band is open to any West Virginia University student pending a successful audition.
Auditions for 2025-2026 have concluded. Auditions for 2026-2027 will take place in October 2026.
